Yamaha XTZ 750 Super Tenere - who used?

Hi all!
XTZ 750 ST - my choice for ride in 2007-2008.
Who used this model? Could somebody give any reccomendations about this model?
Thank you!

Hello there! Great bike; built one from ground up last winter (see http://www.heikkil.com/supertenere/ploki.html - sorry only in Finnish put pics are there...) and for the price it gives lots of bike. ST has more power than Africa Twin, it is relatively easy to work with and after a few modifications (mainly strengthening the frame around upper rear engine mounts) a great adventure bike.

There is an active - mainly British - ST group at http://supertenere.proboards20.com/ and a Yahoo group at http://autos.groups.yahoo.com:80/group/xtz750/

For my future trips I just otdered a BMW R1200GS Adventure but my Super Tenere is a keeper for those sunny Sunday afternoons...

i have had the same xtz750 for the last 11 years and it has been all over the place ; top to bottom of Africa, Europe, Middle East etc etc

Great bike - it has never let me down anywhere despite miminal maintenance.

Assuming you ride reasonably gently (and change the oil) the engine will be under minimal stress and as all the forums will tell you you, the rectifier electrical thing is the only weak spot.

The only mods I made were to put an Ohlins shock on the back, white power springs up front, a tall screen, crash bars and a centrestand and I was off.

I love mine

Tyres 90/90-21 and 140/80-17

Chain 520 / 112 links with 16/46 sprockets (although 530 sprocket / chain kit recommended...)

Super Tenere

I have had 5 Super Teneres and ridden most continents. Have found them to be super reliable and very strong ,even for two up travel. Parts are easy to get almost everywhere.
I have one for sale now in Australia, Cairns. My wife won't let me keep more that two, so one must go.

fraame strengthenng XTZ750

Hi Heikki,
Can you tell me exactly where on the frame of the XTZ750 needs strengthening? I am in the process of rebuilding my own ST (Inspired by your recent build I have to say). Just installed new barings all round and having wheels rebuilt and powder coated and going for the Paris Dakar paint job (hope you don't mind if I copy yours!) I have a mint 2003 Africa Twin also, but I much prefer the XTZ to drive, so I've decided that it's a keeper no matter what other bikes I have. I eventually got up off my arse and got the rebuild project going, but I would like to strengthen the frame and don't know where it needs it.
Thanks in advance.
Wil, Ireland.

Sorry for the late reply... Strengthening the rear upper engine mounts can be seen here: http://www.heikkil.com/supertenere/vahvistus.JPG

Other part for strengthening are the ignition wire holders' holes that can be welded shut.
