how cool is this? Not sure about all the bells and whistles as its just a concept. It does look like a fisher price toy but cool nonetheless.

I like the look of that, but it looks like it could be heavy, with not much travel.

I really hope it marks the start of bike manufacturers moving towards small practical bikes for overlanding, rather than huge 1200 beasts (no offence to big bike riders!)

If the price is right , i would consider to buy something like that.
A low cc "travel bike" straight out of the factory is something i havent seen.

I have seen you post before about the derbi,did you do a traveling on that bike?
And maybe i forgot the Honda Varadero 125, also a low cc bike ,capable
for traveling longer distance.

I have to say that XTW looks more like a tractor than a travel bike. I understand it’s a concept bike, so maybe comments/requests on forums such as the Hubb, will push Mr Yamaha in the right direction. There are not many old or new bikes out there that don’t need a lot of fettling before setting out.

I spied one of the Derbi’s in passing yesterday, and it looked very smart. The spec with it looks neat. That sub frame looks as though it would require some bracing if travelling luggage is to be carried though. Anyone?
The Spanish appear to have taken a niche market move on this and some of the other M/bikes they have in production. Price appears to be competitive as well.

The "ickle" Derbi is sweeet looking.

A more practicle version of the concept is already out there.

There is a good reason why those who can ride them, choose big bikes for overlanding but don't think this concept bike is the whole answer but perhaps a good start.

I'm liking that concept bike. The Derbi looks pretty but it looks flimsy too, that Ryoko looks like it's built to last. Shame it's so small though, stick a 650 lump in there and I'd be very interested when my bike finally collapses around me.

Now you've got me wondering about my Derbi, I thought it looked quite sturdy personally, but then I have two very untrained eyes. I found a picture of the frame, what do you think might need reinforcing?

the Derbi seems to be well made. On a different note, what mileage and top speed do you get out of your rig?

An opinion based on a picture is just that: an opinion, respectable, but jut an opinion based on a picture.

So, if you own the Derbi and it looks sturdy for you, yours is just an opinion as well, but more consistent since it's based in 1st hand experience. There are engineers behind its design and supposedly it is conceived for that "adventurous" purpose.

Remember its limits as a 125cc, don't overload it and keep enjoying such beautiful bike!

PS: After seeing this picture, would you say that a Honda C90 looks a solid and reliable bike able to carry 3/5 people over bad roads on a daily basis?

I really like these bikes, the Yamaha XTW, the Tenere 250, the Derbi and the Varadero 125. I think they are great traveling bikes for the small roads, just go a bit more slow, take it easy and see more of the beautiful world around you.

Mileage is about 80mpg, but that is round London, outside on the open road I've seen it get up to 110mpg. Top speed? Well the fastest seen was 84mph, but that was slightly downhill, although this might have been offset by the huge roll-top bag strapped across the pillion. Comfortable cruising speed is 65-70mph, but I'm aware I'm only a few hundred revs off the red line.
