XT 600 E vs XT 660 Tenere
Hi,
After reading the discussion about carbs vs Efi, I begun to think about mileage of my bikes too. I ride in Turkiye and we use the most expensive gas/benzin, 95 octan is around 2.9-3.0 USD/Liter now. When I fill the tank of my XT 600 E, it cost me around 50 USD (17 liters). If I change my bike to an EFI version, I am considering 660 Tenere which I don't know much about. When we look at the cost of a very well used second hand one, XT 600 E is about 4.500 USD and 660 Tenere is around 7-12.000 USD in Turkiye :oops2: Would like to hear if it will really worth to upgrade Tenere. Other choice can be a DRZ 400 or something 250 ! :scooter: Regards |
If it's worth it, depends entirely on you !!!
The 660 is for more economical but it will take a long time to get your money back through fuel saving.. What do you use your bike for ? |

I use XT for domestic travels and daily rides. One day if I ride to Africa I am intended to take the light one. If Yamaha has a similar version of DRZ400 I can go for it (DRZ EFI ?). I prefer Yamaha (or Honda)... Spare parts are found easily. So something around 400 can be also enough... |
If an accountant worked this out for you there would only be one conclusion: keep the XT600E, the cost of swapping bikes, higher insurance, building up a similar stock of spares, getting your luggage to fit etc. will take years to pay back at a few extra kilometers per litre of fuel.
A newer, lighter bike however is going to be nicer to ride in sand etc, the bit the accountants can't put a number on. I'd go for the 400 as a bike very different to the R80, but I think you have to make this decision with your heart as much as your head. Andy |
