Which dualsport to purchase.
 

I was wanting to know the best dual sport to purchase for under 6500.00. I want to do a few trips down the Baja and maybe go to central America after gaining more expierience. I'm tired of having to brag about the upgrades on my Harley. I want to sell it and start bragging about my adventures. It's definitly a mlc.

For $6500 you have several choices. If you find a used one even more. the KLR 650, Suzuki DR650, or the DR-Z 400S. I have a Suzuki DR-Z 400S and love it. It has plenty of power, is very light, engine is low maintance. The draw backs are seat is not the most comfortable, but corbin makes a seat for them now. The come with a small fuel take. Again an aftermarket fuel tank is available. For more info on the DR-Z look at www.drz.info The KLR and RD650 are good choices as well. All of these are in your budget NEW. Be advised any bike you get has + and - . Also none of these bikes are going to be as comfortable as your Harley. I am not a HD fan for several reasons, but they are comfortable to ride.

Also be aware that upgrading your suspention is a must on ANY bike you get including the BMW or KTM IMHO. Most suspentions are set up for the average rider of 180 lbs or so. Most people plus gear for a long trip weigh more than that. Go to racetech. com for upgrades there. A suspention upgrad is not need for an average weight person riding around. This can come later. BTW race tech springs front and rear are about $200. Even stock the diffrence between your HD and a dual sport will be night and day. Hope this helps.
