w650 mods south america
Im thinking of going through south america with my 2000 kawasaki w650. I want it to be as cheap as possible. Besides better tires, how can I make it more suited to the task. It has a kick start but I dont know if it needs the battery since its got an electric as well, id like to ditch the battery and the e-starter. Anyone got any ideas for mods to it? Which tires? Thanks a bunch in advance guys.

Ok..I reckon a little w650 kawasaki would be quite a cool bike to travel on. But I would keep it stock. They are pretty reliable from all accounts. You may want to put some chunky tyres on it to better handle dirt roads.
You will need the battery for things other than the starter!..lights, ignition indicators etc. I wouldnt try to make things harder than they have to be. You will find that the w has an alternator not a magneto so requires a battery.
