v-strom 650 vs new tenere
 

hi all,

i currently own suzuki dl650 v-strom '07 make. i had really fun with it on my turkiye-morocco-turkiye trip. had no problem or what so ever..

however, the new tenere attracts me a lot these days. the main problem is the high of tenere. i am 171 cm (app. 5.7 foot) and cant even touch to ground with my finger tips when i am on the tenere.

would it be possible to lower it? if yes, will the engine be somehow efected?

Hello Ozhan,

I know new Tenere is also a good bike though how wide it is used in Turkiye, I really don't know about it. Service and parts are important issue you know.
I know someone who has it, was quite satisfied with.

Lowering the bike is possible, better to ask this at Yamaha section.

thanks for the reply, will check the website nick. and samy, they are not as famous as dl650's in turkiye, but, i dont think there is problem with parts and services, as there and many other yamaha models. also there are more yamaha dealers than any other brand.

i'll have long winter to think and read about tenere..

As a Tenere owner, I could summarize a couple points for you:

- V-strom is a twin engine and Tenere is a big single, make sure you are prepared for the transition in terms of riding expectations.

- IMHO, V-strom is a tour bike that can do off-road, where as Tenere is an off-road bike that can do tours.

what sort of transition should i expect? i owned single cylinder f650 previously, and i know that singles are a bit viby at hi speeds. other than that what is the big differences do you think? the only major problem is the high of the bike. and if you lower them, they dont look cool as they are high.

OK, if you have already ridden singles, then nothing much more different. Viby at hi speeds, actually for me it's between 3.5k and 4.5k rpm are worst, is one issue at least I have to get used to, but am sorting it out. I am about the same height as you are, so I have to lower the bike (50mm from the lowering kit which demands some 20mm lowering on the front - punching thru the brace, plus another 30mm shave of the seat). Does it look less cool? Not to me, because the design of the bike has a tall statue. In fact it's so tall even now I step on the footrest to get on the bike; otherwise, I would get a cramp on some body parts, if you know what I mean ;)

BTW, I love Istanbul, both the Asian and the European sides.
