V or wee
Hi all,:thumbup1:
after having come home from a very successful trip:scooter: through the Balcans to turkey on my faithful Bandit 650,that managed without the slightest complaint:mchappy: , I·ve decided to buy a more comfortable bike: more upright riding position, less airresistance , more comfy seat,superior manouverability and less weight.... a v strom,but a V or a Wee, and here I would like some opinions from riders who have knowledge of pro·s and cons of the two:smartass: , plus more experience on bikes in general as I am fairly new in this aspect.:huh: Thank You (hoping that somebody will take time to enlighten me) and lots of love.:tt1: Cheers.... Have been looking at previous threads and sure seems like the Wee·s a positive adquisition (apart from being, IMO, a darn good looking bike)! My thoughts: Unless you ride 2-up or reguarly cruise at 90mph+, go Wee...:)

I'd go with the V in all honesty sometimes you need the extra power. The wee is nice too but in a different way. For me I mostly 98%+ ride V because I travel a lot and require tools and heavy metals in my job. I also like to ride two up when I can find a willing lady friend. And even though I don't do 90mph constantly I do have moment I "Need" to escape bad situations, and it gives me plenty of horses for that to. I ride a wee now and then too as my dad has one and he works offshore, so I hope no one thinks I'm putting the wee down, because I'm not. If it's a height thing lower it, I just lowered mine after having it stock for a year, what a difference. I can still hop 5" curbs - and do (no mountains in Louisiana) you can always swap'em back if you need to though. Just my 2 cents.. |

I got a new K7 DL650 with ABS, and planning to ride 2-up from Europe to the Far East starting next September. We´ll probably go Greece-Turkey-Iran-Pakistan-India, then find a way to fly/ship the bike and ourselves to Malaysia or Thailand and then see where we´ll go from there...
I´ve been riding some big bikes in Thailand, Cambodia and Laos, so I considered buying an AfricaTwin750 for this trip, they just turned out to be hugely expensive for such an "old" construction, so though I know its totally bulletproof (Ive owned a few XRV´s before) I decided to go for the DL650 this time. I know its not nearly as much ´off-road´, but heavily loaded & 2-up thats not really what Im after anyway. Never really considered the 1000, mostly because my friend has a Varadero in Thailand, and Ive seen how he´s struggled with it every time we had some mud or anything other tricky stuff underneath us. Its just too heavy for that!! Im actually very interested to see how the ´Wee´ will perform, and I do know its much higher technology than, say, an XRV, with fuel injection, abs etc. And those cast wheels might also be getting a pounding on our trip! I´ve had a fuel injected Suzuki (SV) before and it worked like a clock for 60000+ kilometres, of course I never went to the 3rd world with it, so it remains to be seen how the reality is. This trip will probably offer much more dust, humidity, heat, bumpy roads etc. than Ive come across with the SV. So far its great pluses are good room for 2 people, punchy motor, relatively good wind protection and good fuel economy / long range. It will probably be not so good if/when the roads are very bad, but Im hoping it gets thru those parts, since I´d figure at least 90% of the time we will be riding good or at least not very bad roads. |
