UK to the western sahara and back on a wr 400

Is it possible?
I am aware of the comfort issue, I'm not concerned about that (some butt clenching excersises should do for training), I am also aware that frequent oil/filter changes will be required and that can be accomodated, what I want to know is can the bike take it, more precisley the engine?
The bike I have has 1700km on the clock it should surely be capable of another 3000 miles or so before it needs any serious work...shouldn't it?

I work in a Yamaha shop and can tell you from personal experience that the WR400 runs well but when it breaks it breaks big. That is... multiple parts and engine cases. But as has been said, you can go anywhere on anything.

Cheers for the reply

Do you mean that it could fail at any time or is there a reasonable engine life before a rebuild might be neccassary?

I plan on fitting road tyres and gearing for the initial high mileage pavement days to go as easy as possible on the engine.
