RTW on an AFRICA TWIN???

:helpsmilie:i am planning to do a RTW and my choice of ride is an africa twin 93 to 96. i haven't purchased yet a motorcycle, mainly because i would like to be very sure before i do any spending.
i would like to solicit advices on the pros and cons about this machine and or what would be a more suitable ride for such a demanding trip such as this one.
taking note of carnet de passage and complicated computerized electronics failing in the middle of nowhere.
thank you guys in advance for any advice on what motorcycle and route to take and why. i am from milan, italy. :mchappy:

every body will tell you what they think is the best bike for the job.
The truth is..that almost any bike will do the job.

All bike's have faults.

The advantage of useing a older Model bike is that all the fault's are known and you can plan for what parts you may need to carry .

The problem with most new bike's is that they tend to be harder to fix yourself or find someone who as seen one before and who know's how to fix it.

Back to the Africa Twin...if you get one that is well sorted they will do the job with ease...The common faults with them are..regulators and fuel pump's.. fit new one's before you leave or carry one of each and then you have no worries.

I would not think twice about jumping on my AT and riding it anywhere.

Good luck with your hunt for a bike.

Have Fun

Rtw

I myself considered the AT for my next RTW because for 2 up with all gear there are not that many choices. The AT are great and if you can find a good one it will be a good choice . If you ride solo it maybe a bit too much of a bike ( my opinion) I choosed the 1150GS ADV even after reading all the bad press about , love it and enjoy riding even on light off road .
There are no bad choices anyway , good luck.
