R 800gs

Hi all,

Heard BMW is coming up with a new R800GS (and a 450 as well). I am planning to get a 1200GS for my RTW but it being too big and heavy for my size (i'm 5'7"), I wonder if the 800GS is not just a rumour.

Does anyone have any reliable information on this?

Thanks,
Norman

If there's a new 800GS, it will be an F800, based on the F800S/ST. I think it's at least a year away.

At 5'7", you're not too short for an R1200GS at all. Take one for a test ride & try it.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the words of encouragement :thumbup1:. I've been on an 1150GS and it was ok riding on asphalt road. My main concern is the weight issue of the 1200, having to ride deserts and all that: Falling on these 'roads' is inevitable but having to pick it up out of the sand could be really tiring as I am not as strong as I used to be .

Pegaso

Hi Norman,

I saw in your profile you have a Aprillia Pegaso now.
Why don't you use that bike?
It is almost the same as a BMW F650 an lots of people toured the world on it.
Get some off-road improvements, panniers and a tankbag and go!
That will save you lots of money that you can use for your trip.

Hi Jan,
Thanks for your suggestion. The Pegaso's been great! Taller seat than the F650 but I think it has seen its' best days. Been to hell and back if you know what I mean.

BUT; it's still running good though. Only 49000km on the clock. And I won't dismiss the possibility of using it for this trip. (another 50,000km?) And save lots of money too, like you said. :thumbup1:

Hi Ian,
The 450GS (and the 800) was mentioned in one of the BMW egroups I am subscribed to. No, I do not have any further information regarding them and at this point I guess it is just a rumour after all.

I realize I'm replying to an old thread but still...
I saw a R800GS in the parkinglot at work so I know it exists but I can't find any info from BMW or otherwise on the internet.http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...helpsmilie.gif
