North america, s a merica on cn250 or elite ch250

So am I nuts to consider riding a honda helix cn250 or my honda elite 250 on a trips throught north america and down into south America?

I ride an 86 honda elite 250 cc scooter that I would have to drop a somewhere between 500 to 1000 canadain to fix to the point I would trust it. I would have to do the cb350 shock mod, take the engine out and let someone rebuild it. it's more a sit up scooter whom does the highway speeds. The problem is some spare are only on ebay from china for ch250 engine. Eg the cam shaft. Other like brake drums are just used off ebay. No one is making them that I know of. Love my bike and I know someone has taken one on a 35K world tour. This elite has 31 k on it now.
Now to the helix cn250. Strange as it seems 3 years after the last one left the factory there a 100 to 200 still sitting in the show rooms here in the usa.
3 grand buys you one with unlimbed mileage factory warranty. You can find helix from 86 to 2005 with under 10 K for 1500 to 2500. The engine is cloned so no matter what or where you can find something that works. 24 years of production.

So am I nuts to think a helix can do s. america?? thanks for you input. I m leaving next march 15/11.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
