Need help pleeease
I am currently in my gap year and am planning to start a Cape Town - London trip in Jan. I'm going to learn how to ride before I fly out to SA and then buy a second hand bike when I'm out there. I'd love to be a bit clued up on where to go to buy a suitable bike, or even secure a deal before I get to SA. I would be SO grateful if someone could help me out, THANKS

Well for starters there's an XT500 for sale in SA here http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb...ML/000181.html
If that doesn't work out you could try making use of the bikes for sale/wanted forum. [This message has been edited by Ian (edited 18 October 2002).] |

There is a small shop in ST James (Cape Town),
which will totally rebuild a Tenere' for you for R15 000, about £1000. I was there in August and he was putting together a 1VJ engine. From what I saw he does a pretty clean and tidy job, although he does need 3 months to rebuild them. I can't remember his name or address, but I'm sure a bit of investigation would be well worth the time spent. Geoff |

Thanks a lot Ian and Geoff. Got in touch with Imran who posted that ad and things look hopeful. R12500 - a good price for a XT500 in good mechanical condition. Seems fair enough to me but I'm certainly no expert. I'll find out more about that shop in Cape Town if I need any improvments. Cheers,
