looking for commuter / travel bike

hi all i'm looking for an adventure style bike to replace my landrover for commuting and also be able to use for 2up travel, i only have a budget of around £2k and being a landy owner i'm handy with the spanners.

I like the bmw 650gs but don't know if it would be too small for 2up travelling so have been looking at the 1150 but don't know what the fuel consumption is like.

your comments welcome

regards all

Gren

You are unlikely to get an 1150 for 2k.
You will struggle to get a half decent 1100 for that.

commuter/ travel bike

For that price, you are going to be hard pressed to get even a good used F650. probably more likely an older Funduro (90's) model, but you might pick up a good used early 2000's injected bike. Great commuter bike. Will it work for two up traveling? Yes, but there are limitations and comfort issues. It is what you make of it. If that is your budget, you can find a way to make it work....

I'd consider an older Honda Transalp or such, might fit the price range and also be a bit better 2 up.

You'll get an older v-strom 650 for that money.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
