London to Oz on a C90?
 

Hi all,

Not wishing to sound a bit of an idiot, which I suppose I will with this question, but in theory would the journey between the UK and OZ be do-able on a Honda C90?

Obviously speed, comfort and carrying space will all be limited but mechanically I'm thinking it should be up to the job. Spares shouldn't be a problem wherever in the world and they can rack up miles without issue.

Just starting to plan the trip now so it's only food for thought, just wondered what anyone's thoughts were.

it is doable. there are some people who did long distance traveling by c90. i think the only problem will be the time. if you have enough time c90 will do the job.

The question of time is one I've been wondering. Am I million miles wide of the mark in thinking four months would be possible? Realistically 30mph will be a safe cruising speed on a loaded C90, which, thinking about it, would be around 4-5 hours on the road a day..... mmmm maybe I do need to allow mroe time.

And talking planning; I've read that it's wise to take a year to get everything sorted before setting off, is that a fairly accurate timeline to work to, or can it be done sooner?

A good c90 will be a suitable tool for the job!
I would suggest the modern cub90 varient, 100% reliable cdi ignition. and the motor is interchangeable with most of the chinese clone engines that are circulating the world if the worst happens.

Spot on with the 30mph average speed, in my jollies, that has worked well for time/distance calculations.
The 1 gallon can in a front basket, and eyebolts in the front fairing to carry heavy stuff keeps the front end on the floor in cross winds. A few mods like a single seat conversion, strong rack etc will make life easier.

It will take much longer, especially as motorways are a bit of a menace, but you will see more sights, and meet more people. you will be "taken under the wing" so to speak, by locals, who cannot believe that such a small machine is capable of huge distances, and you are much less intimidating than if on a gs1200, they also work well off road.

Spares are easy to find, not that you will need many, the machine is totally field serviceable, far more crash proof than most machines, easy to ride in the snow, will start first prod at -37c (seriously), 16 quid each for tyres, 110mpg,

Yes it is slow, but you will see more, and spend less, thus making your trip cheaper and more enjoyable.

And last but not least, Maximum giggle factor. they are great fun to tour on!!!!

i think you need at least 6 months. i am sure you will cruise more then 4-4 hours a day. 6 to 8 hours ride will achivable. travel as light as you can.

planning, planning looks like an easy job but it takes really much more time than you think. it will take at least 6 month. but 8 or more is save time for planning. actually, first draw your route, then get the paper work done and get the documents you need (carne, int. driving licance, passport, visas etc..), then a light lagguage and spare list and buy them. that is all you need i guess.

Are we talking about the famous "Trail 90 CT", or at least that's how I know it?

Met a guy in Peru 30 some years ago that went Alaska-TDF-Alaska on a CT90. Wow! I'd give myself plenty of time!!! :scooter: (this smileyface REALLY applies!)

The plans coming along nicely. Going to take the well trodden route through europe, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, India then freight from Nepal to Bangkok before riding through to East Timor and across to Oz. Just looking at the best time to go. Theoretically I could be ready to leave end of May but might wait til August/September.

calculate the timing.. summer (june and onwards) would be very very hot in Turkiye, Iran,... it would be better for you to cross these countries in spring or autumn.

If you want to somewhere to stay in Turkiye, you are always welcome.

Go for it, you'll have a blast. Folks that is krazier n uu cycle it, at least you'll be faster 'n them.

As a fellow C90 owner may enquire if your are going on your own? I was originally planning to tour the UK the next year or so. However if a trip to Oz is on the cards..... Maybe a few other Hubbers and we could get a C90 Convoy to OZ? lol :scooter:

My girlfriend and I are about to embark on a similar journey.
Only we are doing it 2-up on a CT 110.

We leave in 7days. I got the carnet today, the boxes are on and the airfilter has been changed... We are all set.

Let me know where you are at, love to meet up in the middle somewhere.

Its gonna take us a month to get out of this country though.
