Newer KLR650 as RTW bike....

If this has been covered in the past, I apologize.

One question really, which will probably breed others;

I'm considering a KLR650 as a future RTW bike, and I want to seal the wheels. The reason for doing this is the ease of fixing flats. I'm better with a plug as apposed to a patch.

Has anyone tried this? Or is it a bad idea?

Lots of threads about his on Advrider. After reading them all I wouldn't do it; if you really, really want tubeless wheels take a v-strom 650.

I would be very surpised if anyone suggested that the bike you intend to use is not a good idea.

The Kwaka KLR650 is indeed a great bike capable of hard-core RTW trips.

Although personally I think the venerable Yamaha XT600Ewould tick all your boxes even better than the KLR (but I'm biased aren't I). The XT series of bikes are simply legendary RTW/African adventure machines.

Seriously the KLR650 is an awesome RTW platform.

BUT I WOULD KEEP IT AS STANDARD (OEM) AS POSSIBLE. Leave the wheels alone they are fine as they are - Apart from the usual brake/suspension/Bash plate/Larger Fuel tank upgrades which are needed for a RTW trip.

A standard KLR does most things perfectly well.

made it to ushuaia with it. for the price it's an amazing bike.

I hate tubes too (yes I'm a lazy guy,, but I'm not alone)

Carry slime and pay the little price to have it changed in the next town.
