This is a new little honda that they started to sell in south America.
Its only a 125cc but might be interesting for minimalistic travelers who
wants to by something not to expensive.(in Ecuador $1750)
For me personally i need more than 10 hp, but i thought i show it here anyway.
Saludos !

That looks even more basic than, read better than, my XR125L which is a great little travel bike. If it has the same OHV engine it should indeed be a top contender for a small travel bike, I hope it will be sold outside of South America.

Great Bike

I just bought this bike about a month ago. Do you know where I can find the information to see if it complies with US EPA and DOT regulations in order to be brought back? Thinking of taking a long ride back instead of selling it.

Interesting. Anaconda do you know if it is possible for foreigners to buy bikes in ecuador (and cross broders with it!) ?

I think when we go back to SA (in a couple of years time) we will buy a couple of local bikes as it is too expensive to transport back and forth from Europe! Chile is a possibility but if we can start from Ecuador it would be nice. And then ride south....

I have had 3 bikes on my name here in Ecuador before i had a Ecuadorian permanent visa, and never had a problem crossing a border (Colombia,Peru ,Bolivia),
i dont know what the rules are ,but i think as long as you don't stay more
then 3 monts in each country your fine.
Buying a small bike can save you lots of cash and is a lot of fun knowing
that parts are all over the place!

Hi anaconda, thanks a lot for this info. Definitely Ecuador is a good place to start then and could be a good plan.

We would not be looking for any big bike. Just a simple honda 125 bog standard can get us pretty much anywhere round Ecuador Peru and Bolivia, which would be the plan.

First time round ( around South America) we missed so much because we were in big heavy bikes. Lots of roads and trails I could not do! We won't be doing that mistake again!

Cheers,

Hi anaconda,

Is buying a moto in Ecuador (and crossing boarders) an easy task?

The bike looks great but so far they seem not to be available in Chile according to Honda Chile any way :(

Never had a problem putting it on my name when buying a bike , same with insurance,or border crossings,:mchappy:

There are so many good litle bikes out there,if this one is not in Chile,
look for the Yamaha ybr125
or honda xr125, suzuki gn125, or bajaj pulsar,qinqi 200,

Hi Anaconda,

The suzuki gn125 looks like a good moto! And cheap! -- Do you have any experience of it?

Thanks,

R.T.W

anaconda moto 16 Dec 2013 01:06

Gn 125 is a good bike , feels a lot quicker than the xr125
(gn 12.5 hp, xr has 11hp) and a lot cheaper ,and stronger up hill, both are very compfy.
The Gn125: Runs 36km per liter has a 12 liter tank,
Xr 125 runs 30km per liter also 12 liter tank .

Gn125 is sold everywhere in S.America , one of the best budget choices in my opinion.

Saludos

Hi there, we are thinking about taking this Honda cb1 Tuf for travelling the whole of South America. Does anyone has some experience with this bike?

Thanks Capo

To me its a Europe final model CG125 (which was Vietnam built) but with an older model drum brake plus a high mudguard, great bike (wife had one) but the odd centrifugal oil filter obliged more frequent oil changes, and not quite the quality or finish of euro builds or Japan builds.

I presume this has the same system. If you have the patience and aren't huge or like to travel with loads of gear I'm sure it's a good choice but run very good oil with frequent changes in it as the engine will be working much harder than a larger one.
