I currently have a 2004 650cc Deauville which I am very happy with, it has be great for tours. However...........two up with my wife on the back there is a small problem affecting her comfort. There is just not enough room for her on the pegs, and she has small feet. The biggest problem is the lack of room at her heal. With my feet in front and the panniers at the back she can't move her feet about. Sort of pinned in!

Now looking at the newer 700cc model it looks like there is a bit more room.

Has anyone had any experience of both? Is there any more room which makes a practical difference?

I have also seen that the "large pannier lids" have a cut out for heal area. Does this help much.

We do intend to try one out soon.

Deauvilles are great bikes for racking up the miles on the road, and I'm surprised they're hardly ever mentioned on here. Most people seem to be after a bike for use only on tarmac or gravel at worse, and I can't think of a better bike of that kind of size. The engines on them comfortably pass 100,000 miles without problems and they can be had quite cheaply, particularly higher mileage ones which have been used for motorway commuting. 30k miles is nothing for those bikes.

Then again they are the archetypical 'Grandad bike'.
