Chinese R71 BMW clone / Dnepr

Anyone know anything about the Chang Jiang BMW clones..? A copy of the Russian Dnepr, so, a copy of a copy. I heard about these from my dad who works in China from time to time, they are popular with the expats.

There's a site here (Translated from German): Translated version of http://www.ural-dnepr.net/chang.htm

"The first Chang Jiang 750 was perfect a copy of the legendary Wehrmachts - BMW R71."

does it have a drive for the sidecar? or was that another model. I am sure a 2wd sidecar rig would do well in rtw and similar travels.

I looked at the (ZhangJiangs) ZJ's when I moved to China. I think one of them does offer a sidecar drive but for really long distance RTW I think it'd be a bad idea to take these bikes in general. MUCHO Maintenance on these suckers. Lots of people spend time getting the German made parts for them shipped and installed on their Chinese clones.

I've read a few trip reports, I believe one was Carla King who took a ZJ around China and I think another list member has done it too so maybe he will chime in with some personal experience on the matter of their LD reliability.

Here is a link to some video of Dnepr's in action. On the video page, click on "moto-trip to a great wall" to go directly to the vid.
