Cagiva Elefant

Heading from UK to Cape Town September 2001. I will be taking my 1995 Cagiva Elefant E900 (carburettor model). This will probably start a string of replies questioning my sanity, Italian engineering bla bla bla, but it's what I have and what I like. Had two of them and never had a problem yet in 35,000 km, although the service schedule needs to be followed religiously. Also considered to be one of the best of the big twins for off road (moderate of course) work, although my off road experience is very limited.

Anybody got any views about possible faults or foibles with this bike that I should be aware of? Have already replaced the Cat end can with an aftermarket, so fuel shouldn't be a problem. Thinking of replacing the rear shock and extending the bash plate.

Any other suggestions?

Woa! What a wonderfull bike! http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/smile.gif

Remember to buy a brand new clutch pack for the obvious replacement... Maybe is a good idea to send it more or less in the middle of your planned route with an express courier...

Distribution belts are sensibles too, and not so easy to find... :-/

Have a nice journey!

Pietro has given a good advice - I would carry a pack of clutch disks and 2 distribution belts ..after all are small and flat and so they will take very little place ..eg. wrapped in foam inside the fairing..
