BMW F650GS Dakar Steering Lock damage ..
 

Hi,

Thinking of buying a 65o Dakar - viewed the bike and it seems nice £3200 for a 55 plate with low miles.

The steering lock on the bike does not engage - is this a major issue. The ignition is all OK but he said the bike was pushed other while parked up and the part of the lock on the frame which locks the bike was damaged so he removed it ??

Should this put me off buying ? Part from this the bike seems fine ?

No. The steering lock is not a vital part.

Someone wanting to nick it could easily snap it with brute force anyway. To mend it you need to replace the top yoke. Not worth replacing imho as its non essential.

A steering lock certainly isn't going to be the difference between someone nicking it and keeping it.

I'd be tempted to check the chassis number and v5 very carefully before hpi'ing the bike.

it's too easy to be ripped off these days
