Australian Tarmac and Outback??? But which bike???
 

Hi , off to Oz to meet two friends on BMW F650s to have a look round. Will do about 20-30k kms on and off road. Want to be self sufficint for a few days at a time. I have about £3000 or $7000 Aus to spend. Seat height is no problem but cant make my mind up on which bike to buy.. I will buy it in Oz so i was thinking of a Wee Strom or an xrl 650. Can you help???

It would be good if you all had the same bikes .. = same problems on road surfaces, distances to fuel, luggage etc. Cost of the bike might be more than the budget though. But I'd keep to a single like tham .. a DR or a KLR might be the go.

It's still possible to get a good xtz 660 here in Aus and they are the perfect bike to tour anywhere! Spares are no prob, though you'll not need them as XTZ just keep going! with a huge fuel tank comfy seat they are ready to go as standard just throw some sort of luggage system on it and go!

KLR available
 

A friend has a KLR650 with around 10000km on the clock in immaculate condition. This bike is bog standard (ie no luggage or accessories) has new rubber both ends, and just serviced.
He was talking on the weekend of around the $4000.00 mark. He has just ordered a new DL1000. Let me know if you want his contact details.
