Anyone used a NX650 Dominator

im planning a 6 month tour of South America, was looking at a dominator as a cheap machine. Anyone used one in the america?

Failing that its a KTM620/640 or an Africa twin.

fine bike. put a proper size tank on it and don't expect too much off road. nice and reliable. easy to service. pretty comfortable. not as economic as some and not as good off road as XRs, but, like I say, a fine bike.

hi
i have just completed a trip from alaska to ushuia on a dommie. a few!!!! things went wrong that you need to be aware of. dropped valves seats (twice and expensive) 2 rear shocks, cdi unit, third gear wore out and all the usual wear and tear. i had an acerbis 23l tank and could well have done without it. thats 200 quid you do not need to spend. you will need a little extra fuel but occassionally but it would be much cheaper to carry a small 5l jerry for those odd occasions or the sth american answer to this, 3l plastic coke bottles. see the posting in the honda forum "prepare your dommie better than i did"(or very similar title) the dommie is a good bike to use if you change/add a few things to it. for more info give me a call on 01539 728567 (Kendal, cumbria) if you want a chat about it.
happy planning

Looks like ill skip on the Dommie. I went to see one today and they look "brittle" lol. Seem cheap but obviously Honda have cut cost with low quality components.

I think id rather spend an extra 2k and get a Sherman tank AKA KT 640 adventure.

Thanks for the info OZ, big help

A while ago I drove a '97 model down to South Africa following the West Coast. Not without issue's but then again which bike is flawless? To cut a long story short, Ive upgraded to a KTM 640 Adventure 2003. Also this bike not without issue's but there is a HUGE GRIN factor that the dommie just DOESNT have. When you are offroad minded and dont mind fiddling (5k maintenance intervals) then go for the KTM!

Dommie?

KTM is a winner!

I'm on a 99 Dominator in Kenya (doing London-Cape T.) and it's been great. Needs regular oil checking but no big probs in 20000 African km's. The plastic bits are "brittle" but the rest of it's been chucked about a bit and it's fine. I luv it.
