650 Pegaso - Why not?
 

Hi guys. I'm new to this forum but picked up a lot of tips from it last night so joined it. My question, I'm looking at an enduro for every day use as well as overland trips north of here (South Africa). Why is there so little on the Aprilia Pegaso '99 if it is essentially the same bike, built in the same factory as the BMW F650? I can get a Pegaso at a much better price with low mileage, should I wait for a deal on an F650 rather and risk the higher mileage. I've done a lot of research and Pegaso looks like value for money. Also, how about Transalp '95 V600? Thanks

I've got one sitting in my garage that recently did a return trip from UK to southern Italy (2-up on the return leg) without missing a beat. Not sure if the cycle parts are as robust as the Beemer but you have to offset that against the price and availability or parts.

I am currently living and working in Nigeria and have recently purchased a low mileage ´89 Aprilia Tuareg 600 Wind (which is basically the Pegaso's forebear, with AT looks). The engine on this one is the 600cc Rotax and on the Pegaso is a 650 cc Rotax (similar to the one on the F650 although not the same).

Now, on the parts availability, what you can get (based on my experience in Nigeria which is a tough place for parts) is limited to:

- Spark plugs.
- Rectifier / Regulator (albeit from another bike).
- Starter engine (ditto).
- Batteries.
- Fuses.
- Fluids (engine oil, brake oil, chain grease, battery acid, etc.).

although the same applies to a F650 down here. Only for Hondas you would get more parts available.

For anything else (brake pads, chain & sprockets, shock absorbers), you can get in touch with InMoto dealers in UK at:

or any similar dealers in France and have them couriered. If it is carbfed, you can get parts from Dell'Orto.

Hope it helps. So far I'm happy with my Aprilia but wondering why so few people use it on long trips (maybe reliability issues? or just not a common bike?).

On the Tuareg I would fiddle with the gearing or sprockets for long road trips, as anything above 70 mph has you doing 5,000 rpm in 5th, which means a lot of vibes from the single.
