2008 Yahama xt660z Tenere (pimped out)

Have been reading some of the threads on the new yahama xt660z and was just woundering, for the guys that have made the purchase, what kind of modifications have you made for touring, and where did you get the parts from, yahama, metal mule, touratech ? and have you got some pictures of the bike after the work has been done, did anyone go for the yahama panniers and top box that is available ? and on the cost side of things how did it work out from the initial purchase price to the final price with the modifications complete and ready for the road or tour, im trying to find out what its going to cost me for a medium sized bike capable of touring and if this bike would be the right choice for me, im still at the earlier stages of research on what bike to pick, any feedback would be great, thanks in advance

Let me answer you by first suggesting what you DON't need in terms of mods:
- larger tank
- shocks

which are some of the biggest cost items.

For any half-serious travels, I suggest you need:
- panniers
- handguards
- seat (many like them modified to flat shape)
- center-stand

which IMHO are minimum, but then you are good to go with the bike as is. There are many threads on the above items. Also check . : XT660.com The #1 xt660 resource : . | The #1 xt660X, xt660R and xt660Z Tenere resource.

If you talk about WANTS, then that will be a different thread. As a friend said the other day, "once I start the mods, there is no end to it."
