Looking at traveling thru Patagonia in dec 2013 on motorbikes
Wondering can anyone recommend a good lightweight small portable cooker and advise which is the best power adapters are suitable

I use and have used a MSR Whisperlite for around 5 years (the same one) and think they are the best. Uses regular fuel so the canisters can be refilled easy and cheaply and can double as spare for the bike! A bit dirty sometimes but 100% reliable.
As for power then just grab one of those universal adapter jobs, that will do the trick! And you can reuse on your next trip....
