Greetings from old (and cold) Sweden.....!

Oki. Not really a totally new member but have not written much yet......

My name is Jan Hellman and I´m from Sweden. Got introduced to Horizons Unlimited in 2010 when I and my girl friend totally accidentally happened to sign upp to a HU meet at the Moto Camp in Idilevo, Bulgaria. We met a english couple on a petrol station before heading up on Transfagarasan highway in Romania and they told us about the bike meet. So we signed up and drove to Bulgaria. Best thing we´ve ever done I´d say. Met Grant and Susan there and also got to know alot of other fantastic people that we still have contact with. Good fun.

I´ve been on bikes for more than 20 years. My first bike was a typical swedish built Harley chopper from -74 with a car tire on the rear wheel. Had that one for quite some time but got interested in vintage bikes so I had several old Harley´s that I restored during the next ten years or so. A panhead from -48, a side valve from -47 and a knucklehead from -36 with a side car. Stopped fixing up old bikes after I had jammed a finger in a grinder some 12 years ago. Not something that benefits people in my profession. Had a new Harley for awhile but sold it and am now riding a Beemer GS Adventure since -09. My girlfriend used to ride Road King´s but she is also on a GS Adv now. In fact it´s much because of her that we got these bikes. It has completely changed our way of riding and traveling on motorcycles too. MUCH more fun! But it would be good fun to have a Harley again one day. And for me I´d go with a old one again. I want a Ural as well..... But no space in the garage.....

I work as a musician/sound technician here in Stockholm and motorcycling is really my way of relaxing and letting off steam. Since we got the Beemers we´ve travelled all over northern Scandinavia, eastern Europe/Baltic countries, Iceland/Faroe Islands and we went to Mongolia through Russia/Siberia this last summer. Ukraine, Georgia, Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Bulgaria and home is on the schedule for this next summer. Hope that works out. Would be fun.

Oki. A short introduction almost 2,5 years after I became a member and signed up.....

All the best, folks.

//Jan

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
