newbie needs help
Hello,
Quick introduction. I'm a new biker from UK (only passed my test last month) who is moving out to NZ in a year or so. I want to ride a bike down there first. Great site for help and info. But I have some questions. I am a moderated user, what does that mean? I can post things here but they take a day to show, is that normal? When can i send personel messages? thanks |

Re Moderated users - Due to a HUGE spate of spammers registering lately (hundreds a day for a while) we are currently requiring ALL user registrations be approved. I do it twice a day on average, sometimes more - depending on whether I think of it or not in the course of the day! ![]() When I look at a user registration to decide if it's a spammer/hacker or not, I look at lots of criteria - like is this person clearly a motorcyclist/traveller or not? If you put in enough information, you're in - if you put in too little to make it clear - you're moderated - if you put in wrong info, (because you're a spammer and have no clue about bikes) you're deleted. Every post by a moderated user goes into a queue for checking. And again, it's twice a day, or so. (I have a LOT of work to do, the site is my full time job - and I'm so far behind it's a sick joke, but I'm working on it.) Your posts have been okayed, and you are now approved as a regular user so your posts will now go live immediately. Personal Messages = Private Messages = PM's - you must have 8 posts before you can PM, again to prevent spammers from abusing the system. Note we discourage PM's without a good reason as we don't want to lose valuable info that's good for all. In other words use a PM to set up a meeting or a ride or negotiate the price on a used part offered for sale, but don't ask about border crossings or how to fix a problem on your bike via a pm, post it on the board for all to benefit. Hope that helps!

That's great Grant, thanks. I understand you being careful. Great site BTW.
