Hello Kenny; Don't apologize for your English, you are doing just fine. I can't really answer your questions, just wanted to welcome you here. Lots of info as you already know I'm sure.
Cheers Neil

Hi there Kenny....

...and welcome aboard the HUBB!! It is always good to have new members and many of the folks here will be able to help you with advice, hints and so on.

Concerning your questions: I see you are still pretty young. So, if it was me, I'd buy a good used bike first. Which one - there are lots of them out there and it all depends on you. Of course it is also a money question. As for me, I am riding a VERY old Honda TransAlp, the Japanese model with 400ccm, built in 1992, with now roughly 50.000km on the clock. I am more than satisfied with the TA, it took me on a 3.500 kilometer touring last year to Hokkaido. Good gas/milage, easy on maintenance (if there is any), and fast enough (at least for Japan, where you have a max. speed limit of 100km/h anyway).

Using a tent - yes, that's what I do. You will always find a place to set it up for the night. Go for good quality (there are lots of posts here on the HUBB), cheap stuff will not take you anywhere in the longrun!

If there is anyhting I can help you with, get with me (also by mail: klausdorth(at)web.de. Always ready and willing to help fellow bikers.

Hallo Hallo D-Day
Welcome to The Hubb - and oh what a wonderful site it is! Its been on my favourites list since it was discovered!
I am new to The Hubb aswell and pretty much a newby to bike riding - a whopping 2 months its been on the road now! But oh wow so much fun!
My man and I are planning a 4 month trip around South America - we leave from Australia in 3 months and 4 days time now! From all the research Ive done - mostly on Horizons - there seems to be a general consensus that good quality gear is the way to go long term.
Welcome again! This site is awesome! Its ever fun just reading all the posts - and oh how excited you'll get!
Have a great day!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events (22 this year!); we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, the HUBB or to receive the e-zine. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
