It's about time...

...that I properly introduce myself.

I was born and raised in Germany, but have been living in the US for the past 25 years. I come from a family of "motorcycle-nuts" and grew up in Steib sidecars and on the back of Horex, Zündapp and BMW's. Even mom was riding her own BMW R26 and R27 over 40 years ago. She just turned 75, still enjoying "moto-stories".

I've been riding for over 30 years. I've covered a whole range of bike brands and types. Although well past the "Kool-aid", I've always come back to BMW or BMW copies

I enjoy long distance travel, light off-road and don't mind weather not being perfect. I do most of my own wrenching. Currently in the stable is a '09 1200GS.

I travel frequently for business in North-, Central- and South America and Europe. Besides the English language, I'm also fluent in German and Spanish.

I am planing a RTW trip from Atlanta, GA/USA to Hamburg/Germany in 2012.

You can also find me on ADVrider.com and SovietSteeds.com

Be safe y'all

Thomas

P.S.: Ahhh, ...almost forgot, ...I also enjoy a nice cup of Starbucks coffee AND ride a GS. Also, I own the entire DVD collection of Long Way Round, Long Way Down and Race to Dakar and think Ewan & Charley are awesome...

With so many folks getting their "panties in a wad" over how lame Long Way Round is, their back-up vehicles and what not, I couldn't resist throwing it in there...

Greetings from Victoria, BC, Canada and welcome to HU, Thomas.

Those are some pretty cool pictures and I just LOVE the Lederhosen. My dad used to wear them :-)

Your mom sounds like a pretty cool lady, especially considering the times.

New to Horizons Unlimited?

New to motorcycle travelling? New to the HU site? Confused? Too many options? It's really very simple - just 4 easy steps!

Horizons Unlimited was founded in 1997 by Grant and Susan Johnson following their journey around the world on a BMW R80G/S.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
