Hola.

Hi, that location sounds pretty exotic to me! Shows how international HU is.

Welcome, and just a question: How much did you pay for the bike, to get an idea of the market there? Lindsay.

Bike set me back about $3400 (US$). Interestingly most large purchases and even rent are done in US$ here not in the local Som. But since it's trading at around 47som=$1 it would make for a pile of cash if you used Som. Prices here for bikes are high because everything is imported mostly by trucks. Also the bike was in fantastic condition. The previous owner meticulously repainted it and it had about 20,000 KM on the clock.

Couple of picks from a recent trip to Lake Issyk-Kul

Moved to Bishkek back at the end of July. Spoke essentially zero Russian then, now it's not much better, but a little better. Actually rode through and around Sokuluk on the 6th of this month!

I'll probably take you up on the offer next summer! I've got the month of June off of work and hope to do a bit of motorcycle travel during the month. Somehow missed your company when I was doing my research on the area...was actually looking into doing motorcycle tours and rentals, but that's realistically a few years out yet (if it ever ends up happening).

As far as tires I don't have any really good leads yet. I've heard that Dima in Kudai-Bergan Bazaar on the edge of Bishkek sometimes has them (in my case 90/90-21 and 130/80-17s), usually TKC (or TCK I can't remember) 80s. The problem is that they may very well be Chinese knock-offs. Hopefully the friend of a friend of mine is driving here from Germany and can bring some new ones with him.

You're always welcome up here as well...but with the school provided housing at the moment I can't offer a place...hopefully in the Spring though...

I am not from Kyrgyzstan...I'm actually from the Southern United States...I've only been here in K-Stan since July, but I intend to stay for a long time.

So I should be here in June, in fact I should have the month off work and plan on using it to explore the country by motorcycle, so let me know where and when you're coming through and I'll try and meet up with you (maybe a few other bikers from here as well). May not be much help on accommodations, but check out CBT Kyrgyzstan, they have a lot of home stays available and they're pretty cheap for the most part.

What will you be riding? I'd love to see some guys come through here on some Royal Enfields!

Thanks for the infos. We heard about Dima too. We are also looking for the same size. 90/90-21 and 130/80-17s for our Yamaha XT 600 E. TKC 80 will do if they are originals. I heard Continental has a official dealer in Kazakhstan. Any idea?

I've heard that there are some, but it's spotty. Not really a good option for me since Kazakhstan just raised American transit visas to $160...might as well pay shipping! I've found at least one company that might be willing to do a bulk shipment for a good price (I think it was Metzler Saharas that I was looking at). They were out of the Czech Republic, they seemed to have a good price and good exchange rate to CZ currency. I can look up their info if you want. I'm planning on trying to get Heidenau K60s and give them a try.

Could be heading your way Bishkek, some time summer 2013.

We planning either a clockwise loop, UK, Latvia, Russia, Mongolia, China, Kryg, Kaza, Russia, Ukraine, UK,

or the counter clockwise, same sort of route.
Either way.

Space for a Land Cruiser?
