Hi from a wannabe Adventurer
 

Hi. I've just signed up and had a quick look around the site. It's bril and definately will be using it in the future.
I'm a rider of a Fazer600 for now and after 2 years, I'm looking at the idea of trading on for a more dual purpose bike..next spring/summer.

LWD/R, Nick Sanders, Globebusters, tales on here and on ADVrider are all making me lust after roads like on LWD in Ethiopia last week!

I've never ridden offroad so on the cards for next season is an "experience day" a la BMW but nearer and less costy...but I'll put that in another topic.

For now, just saying Hi and useful place this is.

Some off-road training would probably be useful, but might not be as neccesary as you think. I had never been on a motorbike, let alone off road when I went on a big overland trip last year, but you learn fast. Just take it easy at first and plan a route where the roads get gradually worse and worse until they are gone - that way you can pick it up at a more leisurely pace. Also the off-road schools in the UK tend to be oriented more to thrashing about on a suitable bike than riding corrugated hardpack with panniers and luggage, which is a very different ball game. Best advice I could offer is just stand up.

Its a great shame there arent any long corrugated roads in the UK, riding on them is pure pleasure - when you get enough speed up, you just float along on the tops of the bumps....
