Inspired by Austin Vince...

Austin Vince at the Touratech Event made my mind up in saying 'Just go for it'

So him and Discoenduro (Hope you got home ok - you got a new fuel gauge yet ) persuaded me to venture outside of the M25 more often.

Oh God! What have I got myself into.....

Expect questions, mainly silly ones.

Seconded

Although I have only very briefly spoken to Austin and Lois on the phone but I was truly inspired by the Mondo book and the Terra Circle and Mondo DVD's

Sometimes it does seem to be a case of 'Just do it'

Last year I packed in my job, loaded up my RE Bullet 500 and set off in search of Mongolia. Quite a big decision for someone that had never ridden any of my bikes any further than 100 miles from home.

BTW welcome to the forum. I'm sure it will provide even more inspiration for you.

I was at the same event, Austin was a great speaker wasn't he?! I think for me he just helped me confirm that I want these experiences, a friendly nudge in the right direction.

Almost finished reading the Mondo Enduro book... probably one of the most inspiring travel writeups I´ve ever read. And very well written, too.

Once in Indonesia, I met a Russian couple, who had no money, and had literally walked there from their home (for 9 months) with their backpacks, sleeping in the wild, cooking their own food, eating stuff you can find from the jungle, etc. I think these Mondo guys had some of the same attitude. This kind of travelling is surely not for everyone, but even reading the book has been a great experience!

Never met him yet, intend to when the chance comes up. I still have the Mondo trip on VHS recorded from Discovery channel during the 90`s! That series had a massive affect on me and my life! I did try contacting the Mondo crewe then to find out more getting as far as one of there Fathers on the phone! It was pre-internet so all I could do was wait...... then in 1997 when I got a PC searched Mondo got 1 result compared to now you get about 168000!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
