Smile Hello from Bristol

Hi all, just registered on the HUBB so I can contribute rather than just reading and absorbing all the information that is here! - Along with constantly being inspired every time I have a quick look at the travellers tales...

I'm in the process of planning a long distance overland motorbike adventure myself. I've got the bike, a bmw f650 (or Ladies bike as my friends like to call it!) I'm just waiting to sell my flat! Bad timing I know... oh well, we will see what happens in the coming months. I have a plan B though, but that wouldn't release the same amount of funds for the trip.

I did go to the Bristol mini meet in Blagdon (just south of Bristol) back in March. I was a bit late (working nights) and I didn't turn up on the bike - I arrived in a Volvo of all cars so ending up feeling like a spare part! Oh well!!

Anyway, I hope to contribute in any small way I can so please feel free to say hello!

Looking forward to chatting and meeting like minded individuals.

James.

Hi to Bristol

James,

I was also at the Blagdon meet, and thought it was great to meet so many like minded folks.
I was just thinking about doing a post, to see if there's anyone in my area (Wells/Bristol) that would be interested in an off-road day, green lanes and the like.

Not sure if you'd feel comfortable on the GS, but maybe you're braver than I, or have another smaller bike?

Anyhoo, let me know if you might be interested.

We're also in the early stages of planning a camping weekend in this area, towards the end of august, so keep your eyes open for that announcement if you're interested.

Hello all, thanks for the replies... Yes will be at Ripley in July by the way!

As for off-roading in the Bristol area - do you mean hunting down the many byways open to all vehicles? There are loads in the area that I have been exploring so would be interested in meeting up to do this. Off road on the GS is ok! I'm getting better - probably won't be that fast though!!

I'm generally free during the week days Monday to Thursday if anyone fancies meeting up. Weekends are usually more tricky for me...

James.

Alright James, have a demented welcome smiley! dont know if we spoke at the meet, I was the fella on the KTM 950 supermoto but you'll find me out and about Bristol on an o3 950 Adventure. been playing with the lanes round S Bristol recently and was interested in putting together a big trail bike type off road day having enjoyed one recently put together on another forum up on the plains.

Would love to meet up with Baron Bolton as well as it seems we might be on the same page events wise (I had a plan of a morning in Bristol, an afternoon on the road over Exmoor (Porlock Lynton etc) followed by an early evening Off road in devon for those with the stamina, love to get advice on some routes and suitability for bigger bikes in this locale.

Either of you going to the advrider meet in a couple weeks time in Ryhader? PM me if youre interested as This Fridays the cut off to put your name down, I'm planning on using the opportunity to test my rig before going to Norway fo a spell the following week.

Big trailie day

I, too was at the Bristol minimeet and I'd be interested in a big trailie (12GS) green lane/off road day as a complete off road novice.

If anyone would like to met up that'd be great.

Theres a meet up from the advrider website being organised , being aimed at novice off roaders - dualsporters and big trailies. bit of camping lots of bikes and a few trails, sounds like my cup of tea, thought it might interest others here as although strictly not overlanding related it's nice to familiarise oneself with the bike off the asphalt.

links here if anyones interested though I dont know if the Mods mind such cross posting or not UKADVrider Novice Rally, Mid-Wales 7-8 June 08 - ADVrider

sadly the lists are now closed to keep numbers sensible for those organising the off road runs but there may well be other events coming up and theres no capping who turns up at the bar

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
