Greetings and Respect from Portugal

Hi all, first congratulations for this great place that's HUBB.
I'm Marco and I'm a 100% Portuguese motorcycle addict... I don't imagine live without riding. I'm a every year rider, I never add a car and I think the bike I have now is my 15/16 one... I've lost the count. I've made some trips in my short live and hope to do much more in the remaining 102 years of live ehehehe...first big trip was a solo in 2009 Portugal/Spain/Andorra/France/Italy(short incursion)/Switzerland and back, around 5000km...I like to wake up in the morning and ride from Lisbon to Jabugo in Spain just for take the breakfast (600km trip) and my last adventure was last October when I made Lisbon-Barcelona-Genéve non stop in 36 hours on a Kawasaki 1500 Drifter just to visit a my "brother" that was needing for some support. I'm the founder of a Club that's call Viking Ravens and last month I've sold my kawasaki VN1500 Drifter aka "Poderosa" because this is not easy in Portugal but because I can't live without a motorcycle ( I don't now if I already say this) I just bought and now on the process of bring her to live a 1988 Kawasaki GTR 1000 Concours aka "Old Langskip" that I hope will make many more km of life with me in the future. Well that's all for now and hope some day we can drink a pint somewhere in this world.

Hi,

Thanks for your comment on my introduction post, made in perfect Polish (however I suppose that it was Google Translator who did a good job :)
I certainly not only will be riding close to Lisbon, but even visiting Lisbon, in last week of April this year (2014). We will be in 3 motorcycles, 5 people. We do not need an accommodation, because we stay in hotels. However, maybe a short or longer ride together around Lisbon? We will come to Portugal from Gibraltar. In our plans there is Algarve as a must, Lisbon as a must, Sintra and Cabo da Roca (we are collecting the farests ends of Europe).
Let me contact you closer to the date of our journey, and if in that time you will not be too busy with your work, jump on to your Kawa and show us some Portugal roads. If not, at least recommend some places to visit e.g. restaurants.

Ok Janusz I will be waiting for you all :welcome:

Janusz Osadzinski 21 Feb 2014 09:04

Super!
I will contact you here (by this post) around Easter. We start from Poland April 21, quick ride through Germany and France. We plan to start "touristc part" from Barcelona April 24th. Spanish coast without any strict plans so far.
In Portugal we will be around April 27th, roughly.
So, not any commitment for now, but, if it would be a beautiful Sunday, April 27th, if we will be already in Portugal, if you will have a fancy for a Sunday ride, why not to meet and ride together to a fish restaurant?

Hi,
Are you still in HUBB?
As announced couple weeks ago, we are going to visit your beautiful country from Sunday April 27th, coming from Sevilla, Spain. Quick ride along Algarve, Lisbon is a must, Sintra, Cabo da Roca, and we are leaving Portugal Tuesday April 29th.
Short stay in Portugal, but we are doing it in 2 weeks journey from Poland, 8500 km.

Motorbikes addicts have met in Portugal

We did it!
If anybody entering Horizons Unlimited Welcome page doubts if it really can give any valuable contacts between motorcyclists – read this:
As you can read from above correspondence, Marco from Portugal, introduced himself. At the same time, he did a funny comment on my welcoming letter. So I have paid attention who he is.
It was still first days of February, and the motorcycles were hidden deep inside garages even in Portugal, nothing to say about Poland’s winter.
However, when April came, we jumped on motorbike, and, where to ride? Portugal maybe? How much it is from Warsaw? Let’s check in google maps… Warsaw – Lisbon, just 3400 km. In a straight line. One way. By Spanish coast it will be… around 4500 km, one way. 9000 km altogether, there, and back. OK, easy ride, it’s not the RTW.
I have contacted Marco, first by HUBB, and then we corresponded by e-mail.
The dialog looked, shortly, something like: “We are going to enter Portugal in Sunday, April … riding from Sevilla, Spain, to Algarve.” Marco: “I am based in Lisbon, so, if you would be here in Sunday, we can ride together. But, in Monday, I work from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., so we can meet at the evening. Or, visit me at my work.”
We were in Lisbon in Monday, around noon. My GPS unfortunately went crazy. I couldn’t find Marco’s work place. I called Marco, and he tried to do his best to give me the right directions by phone. Wandering through heavy traffic of Lisbon without GPS I found myself, by coincidence, on the way to Sintra, which was in our plans also. So we skip Lisbon, and rode to Sintra. From Palacio da Pena (amazing!) I informed Marco: “Sorry, we couldn’t find you, instead we found Sintra, and we are visiting the palaces here. So, best wishes, thank you for good intensions, maybe some time, some where…”
After visiting this unique palace, we stopped at the old town of Sintra, to find the shop with the famous traditional Portuguese cookies.
As we just parked the motorbikes, at this moment Marco appeared on his Kawasaki GTR, classic from eighties. Amazing! What a sense of timing from Marco! He left his work in the middle of the day, jumped on his classic GTR, and found us in Sintra!
Marco showed us the cookie shop, which we would certainly not find ourselves, becauseit was located little bit back to main touristic paths of Sintra. Cookies were delicious, and I have eaten around 8 of them or so.
Then we rode together to Cabo da Roca, the farthest Western end of Europe (or the beginning, as some say 
Marco choose the motorbike roads with great curves and astonishing view to the Atlantic ocean. It was a great ride.
And there was a fish restaurant in a small fishermen village, a fresh tasty fish and motorbikers talks.
Two motorbikes addicts (as Marco call himself) living 4000 km from each other, made a contact by HUBB, and met in reality. Thank you very much Marco! And thank you very much HUBB founders!
