Captian Barbossa, Pirates of the Caribbean 3 Hi everyone, Have done two trips before (Thai-Vietnam... Mexico - Chile) but only just found out about HUB. I usually travel very unplanned, buy my bike on the road rather than transport one and generally have a had an amazing time.  Such that I can't travel without bike any more.  Anyone who would like to provide any advice on Sth East Asia please contact me...Anyone would like to join me? Ummm...plan.....?
Have no plan, wanna make the MiniMeet in Chiang Mai, then go straight to Cambodia to buy a bike. Looking at an enduro base (XR650? ... DRZ400? so I can do some hevay off road, whatever is azailable. If nada, then I'll put in an order with Lucky Lucky and get drunk for a few weeks while I wait for it to arrive) and circle Cambodia.
Then try Vietnam from Cambodia, which is doubtful, make my applications... head to Laos while I wait, back to Vietnam, China asap... then wherever the road takes me. Destination India. Ideal to China then follow the old silk route through the mounytains to India. Bhutan if they will let me in. India, then...????? I'm pretty easy going, so if you wanted to travel with me and had ap lan you wanted to follow I'd be pretty cool with it. I've hooked up with guys before (non-biking) where we've travelled together, separated, hooked up again, etc... because of different goals. It's all toooo easy. Waddya reckon?

Travel in China
From what I have read I believe you will need an approved escort while travelling on your own bike in China, this may become quite expensive. If this is the case and you cannot afford the escort, there is a problem travelling from Cambodia/Thailand to India at Burma is a no go zone from last reports I have heard.Hope your plans go well.

Amended plan....lol
OK... winging it ain't gonna work.
 The amended plan is this...1: Commencing 21st Jan: MiniMeet in Chiang Mai....  2: hightail it to Cambodia to buy a bike from Lucky Lucky  and see Cambodia3: 'ave a shot at the Viet border (likely no) fly up into Laos, 4: back to Cambodia, lock up the bike and go into Vietnam where I'll buy a $500 175 to do South Vietnam, sell the Viet bike half price, 5: Pick up the bike Cambodia, over to Thailand where I'll get my visas and shiite under way for India while I spin around Northern thailand, 6 -10+: ... and ferry to India, Sri Lanka, Bang, Mongolia and Bhutan if they'll let me in. That should cover a cruisy six months with a fair spattering of enduro trail riding.... After that who knows  .(shiite all this planning is making the Americas look like a breeze, I just rocked up into Mexico and landed at border after border til I hit the southern ocean...)

Heya mate,
I agree so much with that!!!! Confucious: "The journey is half over the moment you have taken the first step." I just did 14 months Mexico-Chile down the Andes and Inca Trail. 26,000 ks, about 60% trail/enduro. I never went without a  (or local equivalent...lol) or a good feed but slummed about a third of it and lived in luxury (pool, motel and Western food) baout every six weeks to re-energise. That cost me $15,000 AUD (but included a few mad party months and a few great kayak tours that blew the budget) with bike and flights included. Asia should be cheaper by half, but I'm buying a better bike this time round so I expect that'll cost me about grand extra by the time I offload it (allowing two bikes bought/sold at a loss ... in case of transport issues). Thinking about joining me? I really don't plan much, makes it a bit harder but shit you see some unexpected stuff when you ahve the ability to wing it, huh? Cheers mate
