Hello all

Hello everyone, my name's Phil, I've been riding bikes for 35 years and have been a lifestyle biker for the last 25.
I've always dreamed of spending extended periods touring on a bike, wild camping and just going where the fancy took me, but life always seemed to get in the way.
Last year I spent 5 days touring Scotland with a bunch of mates - no partying or any of the "usual" biker shenanigans - just spending the days riding and the evenings pitched up where we stopped, enjoying the freedom and eachother's company. It was the best 5 days' riding of my life and has whetted my appetite for wanderings further afield......to the point where, a month ago, I swapped my 2004 Harley Super Glide for a Ural outfit (or the Soviet Assassin as I call it) in order to better handle the more extended, "wild camping" type of trip I want to do.
I'm looking forward to reading the many travelogues in here and checking the huge well of information available.
Though I don't have any longer trips abroad planned as yet (small steps first ), I am planning a week and a half to two week trip back up to Scotland and the Western Isles next year, then hopefully a trip to Eastern Europe the following year.

Welcome. Forgive my ignorance but what exactly is a "lifestyle biker"?

Thanks for the welcome folks.

EMBEE, a lifestyle biker is someone who's life is pretty much dominated by bikes and riding (for me personally, in all it's forms).

For most of my adult life I've ridden, built, customised and maintained bikes, been an active member of the biking and bike club scene (20 years ago I even founded a motorcycle club with a friend, which is still active, though I'm no longer a club member), and spent several years earning a living as a motorcycle courier and as a riding instructor. I've also been involved in the custom scene over the years - I worked for The Trike Shop (UK) for a short while and I'm currently building a Reliant trike from the ground up for a friend.

As you can see, most of my life is bike-orientated - it's my reason for getting up in the morning and, when I'm not earning a living on a bike, I'm earning a living to finance my biking lifestyle. I love everything about bikes, trikes, riding, touring, the social scenes and its people......everything. For me biking truly is a lifestyle.

If you happen to travel across the sea to America, Southern California to be exact, drop me a line. I got a spare bed and place to work on the Ural.

Safe travels

Thank you very much, the offer's greatly appreciated. I've been all up and down the East side of the States, but I've never been inland or out West.....somewhere else to put on my 'places to visit' list.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
