Quick reply

So I am logged out every hour or so, big deal.

But it is - when I am punching the 'quick reply' button, write three eloquent pages of trivia, then hit the send button and am told to log in.
Which I do, but then my essay is gone :confused1:

got the same problem...

after replay or editing I get thrown out... getting tired about that...

the only workaround, is to copy the text before pressing the send button and hope for the best... eventually try to log in again and give it another go... pasting and hope for the best again...

question:
is there any thing like a time clock running from the moment I'm locked in, and deleting the cookies after a certain time ?

actually it's no fun any more writing or replaying to any post's....

Grant this is no good...

Red face

Apologies for the hassles

We definitely have not been ignoring the website upgrade issues, though we really wish we could make like ostriches!

We have had an outside assessment done of the website upgrades and integration. The good news is that the upgrades to our core software for the HUBB and the rest of the site content went well. The bad news is that, in an attempt to make the two halves of the site LOOK identical, the developers have made the system complex and unstable for sign-ons and HUBB postings, and also affected the performance. This was NOT what we asked them to do! We said KISS many times!

The upshot is that we will be simplifying the interface, so it will not look as pretty, but it will work. We expect to implement those changes within the next couple of weeks. Further updates as we have them. Visual redesign and restructure of menus will come later, but we do know the site needs it. We are grateful for your continuing patience and support - this has been a very expensive lesson - our favourite kind!

You don't want to hear what I've had to say about all this. My mother would wash my mouth out with soap.

Notes:
The automatic logout has been extended, not shortened. Supposed to help, but not perfect.

Saving/copying your immortal prose before posting is always a good idea in any website - I've been bitten enough on other sites I do it as a matter of course - select all, copy to the clipboard, then submit.

Now I hit quick reply and hope this will work

anyway, another problem that also destroys written text is when hitting quick reply and then inserting links, they don't work and the message is garbled
but that was the same before the upgrade

best is - if you use quick reply, always copy the text before transmitting
if you have a problem, 'go advanced' and try again until it works

last problem I have had is embedding youtube is a no go

oh also annoying is CS censoring my mining questions

Really? BEFORE the upgrade? First I've heard of it!

Hmmm again - youtube embed works perfectly - see above.

NOTE: You ONLY put in the post the youtube code AFTER the = sign. for the above it's: i__7iIiE9R0

and NOT: YouTube - ‪Horizons Unlimited Meetings Trailer.mov‬‏

so what you want is to paste this: i__7iIiE9R0 and then select it, and then click the youtube button. hope that helps!

NOTE: I did this using Firefox 4, my preferred browser, but it should work fine on all except maybe IE6 - and who knows what will work with that - if you're using IE6, upgrade if you can! And anyone can if it's not in a corporate etc system.

Everybody - if ANYTHING doesn't work for you, ALWAYS please post it here and I or another experienced member can help out. We solve problems by asking first, and then when we know, we help others out too. Same here as on the road.

Grant

Re CS censoring - I assume Chris Scott - so ask him whassup!

Lots of people login from work - and they're stuck with IE6.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
