problems logging in from internet cafes

Often when I use internet cafes I can't log in. Why does this happen and can something be done?

I think you need a cookie or something...

Tick the "remember me" box...or something...

Had that problem myself, but I'm no expert

Can't login or STAY logged in

Sorry to hear you're having trouble, I know it can be very frustrating when it doesn't do what it should!

The only known reasons for not being able to log into the HUBB are as follows:
1. Cookies are blocked on the browser
Solution: Allow horizonsunlimited.com
Solution: Tick the "remember me" box - 99% of the time that solves it. If on a shared computer, be sure to LOG OUT when done.

2. Password AND user name is CaSe-SenSiTiVe!

3. Cookie blocker of some sort, usually in an Antivirus package.
Solution: Allow horizonsunlimited.com

If ticking the remember me box doesn't work, try going here, "A place to test things out" Forum:
A place to test things out - vBulletin Community Forum
- and login as testvbtest, password same as user name, testvbtest and try to create a post. This is the same vBulletin forum software as we use, and is the vBulletin vendors forum - so it gives us a good comparison for testing purposes.

If you CAN login there, and not on the HUBB - Let me know!!

If you CAN'T login there either, complain to the internet cafe.

Hope that helps!

Grant

Hey Peter - I get this too on occasion - I've not spent any time de-bugging it so not entirely sure why it happens but a quick fix I've discovered is that if you login on the front page and then it looks like you've not logged in - click into a forum and lo-and-behold... you're logged in. Slightly odd but I get the same behavior on the test forum too.

Often it is not possible to change the settings in an internet cafe, so if this is the issue then maybe we should have an option to log into the hubb without cookies.

That is very interesting Matt, I will look out for that next time.

thanks for your help guys!

Hi again

This became a major issue for me a couple of weeks ago.

I hit a moose in Finland and I couldent log into the board from anywhere. The hospitals computer wouldent let me change the settings and everything was in finish anyways. The local library had the same issue.

I was really sad that it was such a hassel, because I really needed to use the HUBB then...

Angry

WWW. See if the address you are at includes the WWW in the url.

In other words, it should be:

Code:
 http://WWW.horizonsunlimited.com/ etc
not just:

Code:
 http://horizonsunlimited.com/ etc
It shouldn't matter, but it does. We are working on solving it, but it's complex. In the meantime, just be sure you have the WWW in the url, both when logging in and when posting - in other words, always!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
