Please report anything odd after the recent server update

Please tell us about anything odd that you notice; we've upgraded the server, and it mostly seems to have gone smoothly, but there may be things that we've missed.

Thanks,

Jeff

Fixed the broken search.

Time/Date stamp does not match when searching

I've noticed when searching that some posts on the search list will be near the top (most recent), and say, for example: that so and so posted 7 minutes ago. Go to that post and you see the last post by that person was one week ago. Or two weeks. So Search results show one thing but the thread shows an old post.

This has happened for a while now, maybe four months. I thought someone would catch it. I guess so few use this way of seeing new posts ... maybe no one noticed? Or perhaps its done on purpose for some reason?

No big deal, just thought the web masters might want to know.

Thanks! It's amazing what people don't notice, and then when they do assume we know, or someone else has let us know... and they haven't....

Noted, and we'll look into it - anyone else note anything similar?

ta, Grant

Hmm ... yep, your emoticons look fine ... and so did mine when I first posted them. But now the bottom two chugs are showing HTML code along with the image.

This random code is what i've seen on a few posts on the site. On your computer do all my Emoticons look OK? Just curious.

Maybe its just my system?

Grant Johnson 12 Sep 2010 21:55

yes it's partly broken on my screen too. the others are all fine for me.
very odd, will investigate but without being able to repeat it it's pretty hard!

This may not be related, but the edit option seems gone from this page: http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/tri...t-of-countries

very curious - you're still the author of that document so should be able to edit it, as long as you're logged in.

Please check again making sure you're logged in, and send me an email.

Closed all HU tabs, logged off and back on. Still can't see any button or link that says edit.

Emoticons fixed a while ago. Curious conflicts in naming!

I have just upgraded to Ubuntu 10.4 with firefox as the browser. The typefaces seem (no not seem, they are smaller) much smaller here now. am using 1024x768 resolution ( same as before).

That will be Ubuntu/Firefox then - I've noticed that before - you just have to up the font size. In Firefox, Hold down the ctrl key and tap the + key and the font size will change instantly. Ctrl 0 (zero) resets it to standard default.

Thanks, it does not seem to happen on most sites... I deliberately run at t a relatively low resolution to get bigger than average typeface on my 22" screen. Was using firefox in win xp ( at same resolution.) but is seems to treat some websites diferently.

Grant Johnson 15 Feb 2011 06:45

It depends largely on how the site is coded, to what standards and what is the target browser - we try to use the most common standard and code tightly, but the nature of the site and complexity is that there will always be some oddities.

For enlarged fonts, I love the way modern browsers easily enlarge the whole thing, not just the font size.
