New Forum on HUBB?

How about a part of the HUBB devoted to interesting places/good scenery/natural wonders that don't appear in the guide books. For example interesting/scenic roads between places, sites to be seen way off the main routes and other things of this sort discovered by accident.I know there's already a route planning section but it seems to be used mainly for paper work/border hassles and can I do this? sort of questions.
Is this a good idea or does it clash with other forums to much? I'm not talking about re-writing the lonely planet, but it may just add a little to a trip that would otherwise be missed.

Cheers Fish.

Yup, thats a great idea.

There are some sites that list good roads and sights to see on it, like http://www.pashnit.com for California, but other than that I've not come across a place where people have said "this road is a MUST".

Agreed, a good idea. I'll have to think about the best way to do it though, not sure that a forum is the best way, although it might be the only easy way

suggestions anyone? what should it look like? details?

Top of the list...

God idea. Would be nice if photos were posted or a link to a batch of photos i.e. Smugmug.

I realise some of us only have a dial up connection & photos will slow the loading times.

Could you call it "Local Knowledge"

Looking for things that are not common knowledge like hot springs etc etc, off the regular tourist routes and not normally contained in the regular guide books. If each post was prefixed by the nearest town/location it would make searching much easier.

It's a great idea, and we ARE working on this facility, not through the HUBB, too hard to organise, but the new software is very much in progress and we will have this sort of thing coming on line through the summer.

Currently for local knowledge tidbits we depend on the Community Pages - see the Community section on left menu, and then Contact - and you'll see some of the Communities have "more on..." this takes you to a page on the Community and often details on the area. If you need specific info on a particular area, contact the Communities!

Finally there is also the Country pages, accessed from the Planning section. Not a huge amount there yet, but we are always looking for contributions and will post there as we get it. Sam Manicom has posted a fabulous article on "how to do India", and the Turkey page is great too.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
