Believe there should be an automatic cut off date for some threads

For example 'border crossings' cant see what benefit there is for threads on there longer than say 5 years

'Travellers meeting other travellers' again cant see any benefit for threads to be displayed longer that maybe 2 years at most

Border crossing details change so much and wihout warning that a lot of info that is old will be out of date.

Better the poster asks the question on the HUBB instead of relying on old info which he probably does anyway.

I think some sort of archive would good so that nothing is lost. 5 or more year old info on a border might be better than no info.

Or you could just turn up at the border and see what happens.

Your right, but no one cares anyway: we are all adults, so we make the call based on our own judgement: keep the info coming is my view - threads go out of date only when people stop adding the information.

I said that you are right, but maybe I meant "wrong".

Yes - info does go 'out of date'... but
As Chris says - some info is better than none at all.
Know one knows when the info will go 'out of date' .. so no way of telling when the expiry date should be.

So - put a date on the info (eg "Dated:Jan 2009). That should act as a warning of how 'old' the info is.

All posts are dated, so the user can work it out for themselves how valuable - or not - it is. As noted, SOMETHING is often better than nothing. Also, newbies LEARN from all those posts - procedures, concepts, etc are all new to them, so all info is good.

It IS possible to "prune" old posts - but they're gone forever then, so since they take almost no space on the server, I'm happy to leave them. Also that eliminates one of the banes of my existence - threads that are linked to an older thread that is later deleted for one reason or another, leaving me with constant notices that a file is not found.

Hey. I found old threads quite useful, especially when validating info. For example; When finding info on Cuong's Motorbike Adventure in North Vietnam it was good to know that he was renting bikes to individuals four years ago, one year ago and now. Border crossings again; it helps fathem out consintency.
