Grammar!
I am thinking of attending the HUBB event at Donnington next year and spotted this in the advert;
PRE-REGISTER & PAY BEFORE 31st OCTOBER TO SAVE £30
I am already "pre-registered" as I haven't registered yet. Surely you would prefer me to register an interest, or book and pay?

Pre-Registration, Registration and Spelling
We're using the "pre-registration" term because:
a) It's in advance of the event and therefore not an on-site "registration".
b) When people arrive at the event itself, they're directed to the "registration" tent to either check-in (if they've "pre-registered") or pay the on-the-day fee (if they didn't).
In that context I'm not convinced it's grammatically incorrect, but apologies if the common HU parlance is confusing.
Grammar aside, I hope you'll be able to make the event. Looking forward to seeing your "pre-registration" come through.
By the way, Donington doesn't have a double "n".

Don't forget that this is a forum with unlimited horizons so, many users are readers of English as a second language. A little leeway is a good thing with spelling and grammar. There are even users from the USA so keep it simple. (giggle), Lindsay.

Excellent thread! On a similar note, when I'm baking, I never pre-heat my oven as the recipes demand. I merely heat it.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
