hello all, hello grant,

uhh, the update is quite confusing, but I will get used to it. Thank you Grant so much for your work in all this years to maintain this website and the Hubb -( why did you call it now Forums ?? )

one more why ?

why do we have now private messages ? dont we all have email accounts for that ?

Grant, it is time now to donate some money to you, and I just found out that I can do this by credit card, here right now. no, I dont want a t-shirt, a membership or a calender, just donate a little bit of money for your work in all this years - because after seven years on the road (and using HU since 1999) and seven month unemployment now, it is tight.

greetings and please keep up the good work

mika

Yes please. That would be the best of both worlds for me.

If you think the user change is confiusing you don't even want to think about the admin changes! From about 200 things to set to over 2000, and hundreds to deal with regularly! Complicated, but much much better.

Forums because newbies have never heard of the HUBB - but you have so you'll figure it out. I hadn't actually realised that HUBB wasn't on the menu anymore till you mentioned it - so I'll add that in asap.

Private messages increase your security - no one knows your email address unless YOU choose to give it to them. With PM, you can exchange messages freely, and still be secure - your email address is protected from potential spammers, hackers and assorted nasties.

and yes it's hurting, but I'll live - I'm just pleased that it is still working and hasn't given any major grief!

Is there a way we could change the screen colours on our own computers, I am sorry but I find the white is just too harsh for my over sensitive retina's.

Changing colours isn't easy. Firefox does allow some tweaking - you can use your own style sheet if you like. IE, nothing. I highly recommend Firefox anyway.

Given that a huge number of sites, pretty much ALL the majors, are using white backgrounds, try adjusting your monitor.

See the thread "The Look - do you want a choice of this new style OR a version of the old Style?" in this forum for details on monitor adjustments.

Be sure to have good ambient lighting, and turn the contrast down a little and you'll probably find it's fine. Of course if you've been visiting one of those black sites, it's a bit of a jolt! But then I end up squinting to read the text on the black sites, hate them.

Past that - give me time and I'll come up with a darker style - really didn't expect anyone to want the darker background! Everyone that looked at the new style sample liked it and didn't say a word about the brightness!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
