Double/cross Posting

Is there any guidance regarding the same topic being posted in multiple locations? It's frustrating to see it happen when you use the 'View New Posts' options to see the same question being asked all over the place.

I would have thought when discovered, moderators should comment on the least-relevent thread and then delete (or lock) it after a suitable pause.

I'll second that!
There seems to be a bit more of it about today than is usual.

I reckon that there is some guidance on here already (in the bumf that is written about what each thread is concerned with) and it just needs a bit of thought about where to put a posting; I spent a minute on this today before starting a new thread; sometimes it is not clear where to put something. However, I totally agree that it is pointless putting up exactly the same item/text twice.

I also note that because each thread gets differing answers you get 2 or more conversations going on the same topic and have to keep reading both to keep up with what's being said. For example the XT660 and Unleaded Fuel threads are diverging.

Yep! Me too.
Just been doing exactly that.
Not sure that moderators for each thread can take this over-view, in a timely manner anyway. Just requires us all to think about where to put posts.

Rgds,

Dave

Maybe....

...this would work? I have noticed the same thing. The problem is that the cross-posts are not in forums where I am the designated moderator. Many forums have no moderator. However, Grant, in his wisdom, has granted (pun intended) me super-moderator status so I can step in. The idea I have had is either I post on both (or more) threads, saying one of these treads will be deleted, leaving a re-direct to the other, and asking for consensus as to which one (democracy gone mad???), OR make a judgment call and do what I think looks best. If the forums have a designated moderator, of course I would get in touch with them first.
Comment?

Regards

Nigel in NZ

Wink

Hi Nigel,
I've never spoken with a super-M before!

Go for your latter suggestion IMO and forget the democracy; just needs the input from you or whoever to help keep the pages clear - more work for you to do, but can't be helped!!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
