Best Roads forum
It would be nice to have a forum associated to Trip Planning where people could leave messages describing the most scenic roads in the world.
The messages would have to be formatted to be easily retrieved, for instance: Keyword: Best Road Continent: North America Country: USA - California Location: Highway 1 from San Francisco to Mendocino Difficulty: very easy (smooth asphalt) Duration: 1 day Open: all year but fog in summer and rain in winter Notes: One of the 10 best roads in the US. From Mendocino do not miss the wonderful Highway 128. Someone planning a trip to the Western US could issue a query on "Best Road California" and know that Highway 1 is a must. It would be even better if the moderator could maintain a world map showing the best roads. Clicking a location would display the info in a separate field. ------------------ Pierre http://www.geocities.com/skypie999/bikes/ |

Pierre,
Brilliant - we're on the same wave length! On my whiteboard under TODO is a "Great Routes" database. What we haven't done is work through all the necessary fields etc. You've given a good start. Any ideas for any other fields appreciated. We're thinking about for instance GPS way points, rest stops, hotels/etc, sights, and...? Of course for the database we need to work out field lengths etc as well. We're working on a MySQL db. Agreed on hwy 1 - ridden it a couple of times, fantastic! I don't want to open up a forum for it, it's just too labour intensive to transfer data to the database when we get it done. Also too much won't be complete - at least with a db and forms we can enforce some things. Coming soon to a theater near ... I mean, yeah we're getting there! Great ideas! And, as an FYI, check out the Weather Channel (of all sites) for some descent info...
