Vibrations

My Tiger is giving me utmost grief with the vibration mainly through the handlebars and a slight buzz through the footpegs.

The footpegs I can live with, however, the handle bars are the worst I've ever experienced. has anyone had this issue with their Tiger, or for that matter any bike. If so, did you manage to rectify the problem.

Any ideas? I'm thinking of either a different set of bars, what type?, or heavier endweights.

Odd. I just read your previous thread about RTW suitability, and it seems you haven't had a very good time with your Tiger (nice to hear tradional 1970's English workmanship is alive and well.....). I have a friend with a 900 i, and I don't remember him telling me that vibes are much of a problem. Is it possible it could be related to a blockage in the injection system (like a carb balance problem)? It would be worth checking everything before replacing the bars. However, although I've had no direct experience with them, but I've heard that some makes of braceless bars are made to damp vibration, so it may be worth a try.

Sorry to provide speculation rather than experience...... Stig.

Thanks for your input Stig, I was speaking to a guy at work who rides a Triumph 660 and he offered a maybe cause of the front wheel out of balance.

It's gives me something to go on and maybe a likely area. although, the vibe would of been with the bike since I bought it, and the weights are fixed through the spokes so very unlikely of throwing a weight.

The quest is still on.

I had my Tiger from new for about 8 months now, not even the hint of a vibration so I'd suggest your problem is somewhere else. Tyre problems maybe?

I rang the Triumph dealer here in Perth (West Aust), and he hasn't heard of vibrations through the handlebars, a slight buzz through the footpegs can and does occur.

He's going to check it out when I bring it round to him so stay tuned for the mystery vibrations.

I have a couple of friends with Tigers I'll ask them, I would check the bars to, make sure they have the correct end weights fitted. Also send your question to tony@boyerracing.co.uk he might ask the mechanics advice for you, they are my local Triumph dealers, worth an ask.

Good luck

When I bought my 94 Tig it had quite abuzz through the bars, they are rubber mounted and I slackened the lock nuts off slightly which cured the problem, done 30+K miles since and the nuts havent moved from where I slackened then and the bars don't move so if all else fails give it a go.
