Triumph Speed Triple

Hello,

I rejoined the biking community this year, purchasing a Triumph Speed
Triple.

While the KLR I hop to eventually bring home would probably be a better
touriing bike, I wondered if there were any other Speed3 fans here.
Also, pointers to touring add ons like hard luggage that might fit my bike.

Thanks!

Don

Hi Don

I have had a couple of Speed Triples, although I never really "toured" on them - I used to go over to mainland Europe to race meetings. I used Oxford soft throw over luggage which worked OK for me. There are various sources for huggers and bikini fairings - Triumph being the easiest but not always the cheapest. I also used a Scottoiler on the chain as I did with evey chain driven bike - very good as it extends the life of the chain and saves the constant adjustment. I now use a Yamaha FJR 1300 and a BMW R1200 GS.

enjoy the Speed Triple !!

Rob

I have a Tiger, but the wife comes along on European Tours on her Ducati Monster. It has the excellent Ventura luggage system fitted, ideal for sports bikes.

I use Andy Strapz expedition (soft) panniers on my Triple along with a Triumph luggage rack (not cheap but looks good) so i can bungee on another bag over the top - works well.
Happy touring!

Thanks...

...for the info about luggage for the Speed Triple.

I have to say that I absolutely love that bike. I just wish I could bring it over with me reasonably easy when I manage to make a pilgrimage to the Ace Cafe.

Cheers,

Don

Not seriously offroad, I did accidentally end up with a 10-15 mile stretch of dry, packed gravel and it handled fine. I think that's about all I'd try with it, though.

A lot has happened since my original post. That first speed triple was crunched by falling rocks in BC in 2009. Though about my choices and replaced it with a 2009 last year. It's my perfect road bike, not too heavy, plenty of zip, reliable and FUN.

I also have a DRZ400 and am debating whether to keep it or trade it in on the new Tiger 800 in a few years.

Bit late replies - but hey I only recently joined up!

I built a Speed triple from a crashed 955i daytona, from a collection of parts.
Can't post a pic right now cos it's hosted on flickr and I cant access from work.

but it is the best bike I have ever owned (and I have owned, raced and crashed a few over the years!) lol

It is a fantastic bike. I can't imagine ever selling mine.
