Tiger too or not too bye

I have been offered an 1998 tiger, 30,000 miles new MOT, new tax, sounds ok on start up no rattles etc, cosmetics are a bit shoddy but thats not an issue with me.

What if anything shouls I be looking at, this has fuel injection not carbs, what sort of mileage any help on making my mind up on purchasing or not would be great. and the price is £1900.00

Of some help?

Hi, and, yes, it's me again!

Never owned one of them, but you may like to look at:

Triumph Tiger-99 Valuation - Parker's

They don't go back as far as 1998, but it gives some idea of the market. Also, I guess there are owner's forums/clubs on the internet to be found via a search engine.

Hope this helps a bit,

Cheers,

Dave

This is little help I'm sure, I own a '04 model. I hate it. Although I'm grateful for that Parkers address link (in this thread), I was wondering what it's value is so I can get rid of it ASAP!!
I've had it for 6 months, and just got back from a 2,500 mile crawl round Scandinavia. The trip as totally impeded by the useless bike I was riding. I would have done more mileage but didn't have the confidence in the tool. Plus it drinks fuel ala tonto.

Snags in the bike are that it's very tall, and very heavy, put the two together and you're already having problems. I'm 5'10 and can only have 1 foot flat on the ground (leg locked) and the other with the tip-toes scrapping. When you have quarter of a tonne between your legs, you'd expect to be in a position which you could manage the weight. The fuel economy is atrocious (IMHO anything below 60mpg is unacceptable)... I was getting about 35-40mpg on motorways. In Norway where you'd struggle to do more than 40mp/h I was getting a substantially better performance (in 6th gear), but still not great.

I only have myself to blame for buying it.

I have an 06 reg Tiger 955i. I love it. It is smooth on the road, has loads of torque and does 50mpg no matter how fast or slow I go. It's a big beast though, so make sure you fit a Tiger :)
I took it to Germany last month and the big tank range is really welcome on a long run.
