I think I have messed up big time!

I ordered what I thought was standard K60 tyres front and back. So far so good....

In fact what I ordered was:

1. Front - K60 Silica sio2.
2. Rear - K60 M+S.

It would seem I have in my hands WINTER tyres! What a plonker am I?

I intend to run the tyres in SUMMER!!!!!!!!!!!!

Research has unearthed this data -

For clarity, there seem to be five versions of this tyre:

1 - K60 (general purpose tyre)
2 - K60 Scout (no idea why this is different frrm the K60)
3 - K60 Scout M+S
4 - K60 Scout M+S (aka Silica Sio2) (winter tyre -silica compound- with some snow capability)
5 - K60 Snowtex (dedicated snow tyre with fibres woven into the tread)

QUESTION: DO I FIT THESE TYRES OR NOT? I PRESUME THE COMPOUND MAY BE A BIT SOFT FOR SUMMER RIDING AND THEREFORE THEY WON'T LAST LONG?

Perhaps I should go with standard Bridgestone Battleaxe's (BT45)? If so, I have wasted £120.

My preference would be to use them regardless..... Good idea or not?:eek3:

I got 10000 miles out of my last pair. Just ride in summer, enjoy the benefits in winter.

I don't ride my babies in winter, they get polished more than ridden.....

I am particularly worried about the front one. I presume it is a very soft compound (not likely to last in summer),

Nearly all my riding is on fine hot dry days......

If your advice is to fit them both regardless, that NEGATES my percieved problem. :scooter:

Yes, just use them.


Winter means can be used in winter (and legal if you meet a pedantic German plod after Octoberfest), not only to be used in winter. They probably do wear faster in summer and I'm sure your actual race rider can tell the difference, but this is a 65HP bike in a continent infested with traffic jams and speed cameras. The depth of tread alone guarantees they'll last a long time and the whole bike is a 120 mph design usually averaging 45.


Car drivers will usually switch to winter wheels to preserve their alloys from the salt, go to a narrower profile to cut through the snow at the lower speeds they'll be doing and go to a compound that warms up faster just as part of the whole package and to stay legal. On a bike we don't get that much choice as by the time you've fitted the sidecar or outrigger skis you are pretty much building a whole winter bike.


Actually, no, ignore all the above, just tell me which skip you'll be putting the rear in (It'll fit my Guzzi!) ;-)

I hope you dont intend going to Italy because if you do you are not allowed to use M+S tyres. If caught its a very painful fine.

So its not a good idea to use them.:oops2:
