Bonneville Panniers
 

I'm planning on installing a Hepco and Becker rack and Pelican or Storm cases on my T100. Has anyone done this? I looked through one thread dealing with Bonnie luggage but the pictures were no longer posted. I'm looking for the best, most convenient solution to mounting the cases, and I don't mind rigging something up myself. Has anyone used the mounting kits sold by Happy Trails or Touratech? Will they work with the H&B rack? And how sturdy is the rack?

Never tried the H&B stuff on the Bonneville. I have the Metal mule racks but use left over touratech boxes from my BMW days. Back then I was not impressed with H&B, the racks simply didn't fit hence my switch to TT.

Can't help you with H&B but I bought a rack and pannier frames from newbonneville.com and was less than impressed. I'd describe them as vanity items rather than for practical usage.

The rack couldn't support the weight of a top box and snapped in two places and one of the pannier frames did the same with 21lt Givi cases which I screwed on.

Norman Hyde do a Givi option but with hindsight, next time I'll probably go the cheap route and get a Renntec rack and soft luggage.

When I first got the Bonneville I used the Triumph "racks" that are meant to be used with their daft leather bags to keep decent soft bags off the exhaust, out of the back wheel etc. Worked well and decently cheap.

Newbonneville sells a H & B all-in one rack and pannier frame, and they also sell a stand alone luggage rack. Which was the crappy one that broke on you? I'd like to get the H&B because it looks like the only other option for hard bags for the Bonnie is Metal Mule, which is outrageously expensive. Obviously, if it's going to just fall apart I won't waste my money.

Can't help you with the H&B items (although they look sturdier than the MCR rack & frames) but newbonneville took months to deliver to the UK and weren't very quick to reply to my e-mails. Being in the US, you might get better service.

This is entirely my opinion and your experience might be better, but personally I wouldn't deal with them again.

I fitted Hepco-Becker frames and junior panniers to my MuZ Skorpion and had no problems at all.
The frames even put a lovely couple of dents in the bonnet of a Citroen that tail ended me at a juntion with no damage to frames or bike.
I would recommend the frames and panniers.
The panniers have now been fitted to my Tiger using SW Motech quicklock frames which do not look as solid.

Thanks for all the input. I guess I'm still leaning towards the H & B set up (cautiously). It's the same set that Mototwin sells. If anyone has had problems with this particular rack, let me know.

Ive got the full serıes two metal mules on my 2007 Bonny,but had to remortgage the house and sell a kıdney to pay for ıt.If ıt gets me to NZ wıthout any problems I consıder ıt money well spent though.So far,no problems after 8000 mıles across Europe and dodgy Turkısh roads.The bıg test comes wıth Pakıstan and Indıan nroads.Ill let you know ıf anythıng happens to them.

I'm currently reading Ted Simon's 'Dreaming of Jupiter' (his recent trip on a GS80). Interestingly, he says he got fed up with the weight of hard panners and ditched them in favour of soft luggage.
